The Colorado Mesa women’s team opened up the 2014 season Thursday with a 2-2 tie in double overtime against Midwestern State.

The game was the opener to the Fort Lewis Women’s Soccer Classic taking place at Dirks Field in Durango.

Midwestern State scored first in the 13TH minute of the match, and went on to take a 2-1 lead at halftime. Colorado Mesa tied the game at two points a piece in the 80TH minute. The Mavericks outshot Midwestern State 21-12.

In the second half of Thursday’s action, host team Fort Lewis College won their game against Texas Woman’s University 2-1. The win was not only Fort Lewis’ first of the season, but it was also the first win for first-year head coach Jimmy Hall.

Colorado Mesa will finish up the tournament with a game Saturday against Texas Woman’s. The game is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
