Drive down Colorado's Highway 285 through Chaffee County and you'll count well over 200 American Flags lining the road. Here's the backstory on this effort.

Last Sunday, August 8, 2021, my entourage made the trip along Highway 285 between Poncha Springs and Morrison, Colorado. Travel this stretch and you'll see an American flag every few hundred feet. You can be a part of this.

Something To See

This is a remarkable site. The magnitude of this undertaking is incredible. For a long stretch of Highway 285 you'll spot the flags. This is 100% the work of volunteers belonging to the group Chaffee County Patriots.

The Word From Buena Vista

According to the Facebook page "What's Happening in Buena Vista," over 200 flags have been placed between Buena Vista and Salida, and they're "not done yet."

I spoke with one of the organizers, Carle Linke, over the phone yesterday (August 11, 2021). According to her, close to 100 flags were raised during the first day of the endeavor. While she does not have an exact count as of this time, she estimates that between 250 and 300 flags have been raised thus far.

Who Belongs to This Group?

According to their Facebook page, Chaffee County Patriots -

...is a non-profit, dedicated to providing a “voice” for Patriots throughout the Chaffee County community and was formed to organize and establish in-person meetings for those who are willing to educate, equip and mobilize the community on issues affecting faith, family, and our constitutional freedoms.

Now For the Part I Really Like

There is a part of the group's charter I really enjoy. This caught my friend's eye as well. The statement reads:

Chaffee County Patriots are non-partisan and welcome all like-minded individuals that love, support, and believe in the very ethics and moral principles by which our Country was founded. Patriots are “essential” citizens, and the glue of the American Dream!

How Do You Define Patriot?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition is as simple as this:

Patriot

noun
One who loves and supports his or her country.

Ceremony This Weekend

The organization Chaffee County Patriots, Ltd., will host a flag waving ceremony this Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers Are Needed

More flags are going up all the time. If you would like to get on board, some strong hands are needed. In addition, if you would like to contribute a 3' X 5', or funds to purchase them, that would be appreciated as well.

Take a look at some of the work they've accomplished.
