The biggest challenge this Fourth of July might not be finding a place to watch fireworks.

It might be figuring out which show to pick.

Colorado is packed with Independence Day celebrations this year, and not just because people enjoy blowing things up in a controlled and patriotic manner.

America turns 250 in 2026. Colorado turns 150. Communities across the state are treating this holiday a little differently because milestones like that don't come around very often.

Some towns are going bigger than usual. Others are leaning into parades, concerts, baseball games, and community festivals. A few have already made difficult decisions because of drought conditions.

Not Every Show Is Guaranteed

Before anybody loads up lawn chairs, coolers, and enough snacks to survive a minor apocalypse, keep an eye on local forecasts and event organizers.

Colorado remains extremely dry in many areas, and fire concerns are already affecting holiday plans. Durango has officially canceled its fireworks display for 2026, while other communities have indicated they'll continue monitoring conditions as July 4 approaches.

The schedule you're seeing today could still change.

From Grand Junction To Denver

The good news is there are still plenty of options.

Grand Junction's Lincoln Park show remains one of the Western Slope's longtime favorites. Fruita is lighting up the sky on July 3. Denver has multiple large-scale displays planned, including shows at Coors Field, Empower Field, and Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Smaller communities across Colorado are also keeping local traditions alive with hometown celebrations that often feel more Colorado than the bigger city events.

Sometimes the best fireworks show is the one where you spend half the evening running into people you haven't seen since high school.
