I know we haven't even hit Halloween yet, and we are just barely into fall, but some people do have their Christmas tree up already!

Even if you are a firm believer of Christmas decorations don't go up until after Thanksgiving, everyone looks forward to Christmas season staples in some capacity. Unfortunately, a beloved Christmas staple that so many people count down the days for is done for good.

The Greeley Grizwalds Christmas light display won't be going up this year and doesn't look like it will in the future as the owners are moving.

On Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Greeley Grizwalds will be holding a huge yard sale for all the Christmas lights and decor that have lit up Avenue Court every Christmas season.

In 2018, the Greeley Tribune ran a story on Greeley Grizwalds who, at the time, had been running their display for 16 years. That means in 2020, their last year was their 18th year decorating their house where people came in droves every winter.

According to that same article, in 2018, the Medhursts, owners of Greeley Grizwalds, were featured on "The Great Christmas Light Fight", a special ABC that runs every year between four families competing for the $50,000 grand prize.

And rightfully so! The Greeley Grizwalds display setup is a labor of love. The project starts before Halloween and takes an estimated 300 man-hours, 180,000 lights, and results in an electric bill that is about 3 times the amount it is the rest of the year, according to the owners.

However, as the Greeley Tribune quoted the Medhursts, they felt their lights display was a gift to the community, making it all worthwhile.

A staple that has lit up Greeley for almost two decades and a Christmas tradition for so man, the Greeley Grizwalds display will surely be missed. Best of luck to the Medhursts in their move!

A lot has changed in Greeley over the years, check out some other staples that have stayed and gone since Greeley first began.

Grand Junction Christmas Light Displays of the 1940s

These decorations don't compare to the magnificent blue light display you'll see in the neighborhood in the northwest part of town. It was a different time. Even at that, there's something heartwarming about these 1948 decorations.

These are the best of the best of 1948. I regret I don't know which house placed first, second, etc. In the end, it doesn't matter. They're all great. Take a look at the gallery. Who knows? You might see a house you recognize. For that matter, you might see someone you recognize.
