Grandson of Vail Resorts Co-Founded Killed in Avalanche

An avalanche in Vail, Colo. took the life of Vail Resort's co-founder's grandson Tuesday (January 7) and temporarily trapped three others.

Anthony 'Tony' Seiber, 24, was skiing in the backcountry outside of Vail Mountain when an avalanched took his life.

Seiber is the grandson of Peter Seibert, Jr., co-founder of the Colorado ski area Vail Resorts.

The three others that were trapped were rescued and had no major injuries, leaving the area on their own.

The avalanched ocurred in the East Vail Chutes -- about 90 miles west of Denver. The Vail resort's master development plan told CNN that "the East Vail Chutes is an extremely steep and avalanche prone bowl."

Due to the windy weather and snowfall over the weekend, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center issued a warning on Monday (January 6) of dangerous conditions of the mountain snowpack.
