A new movie called "Miss Cannabis" starring Melanie Griffith is slated to be filmed in Colorado, and we are wondering if Grand Junction might be the perfect spot to film it.

"Miss Cannabis" is based on a true story about a rich woman who ends up losing her wealth in a Ponzi scheme. She moves to what she thinks is a vineyard, but it turns out to be a medical marijuana growing operation.

The soon-to-be-filmed movie recently received a $600,000 rebate for filming in Colorado, and according to the Denver Post, producers are looking at locations in wine-growing areas. Grand Junction seems like a perfect fit and here are some reasons why.

  • The Grand Valley is Colorado's premiere wine growing area, so it makes a lot of sense to do the movie here.
  • A major motion picture hasn't been filmed in the area since Johnny Depp's "The Lone Ranger" was on location near Moab, Utah in 2013.
  • All of the backdrops would be amazing- from the Grand Mesa to the Bookcliffs, and the Colorado National Monument.
  • A lot of people in Western Colorado could be hired on as extras, and then would always be able to say they were "in the movies."
  • It could be a big boost to tourism as moviegoers see how beautiful it is here in Western Colorado.
  • There's bound to be a boost in the economy with the influx of cast and crew in the area utilizing local businesses and services.
  • The setting of the story is California, but Western Colorado's vineyards and orchards could pass for California.

We don't know yet exactly where the new movie will be filmed, but if they are looking for Colorado Wine Country, it doesn't get any better than Western Colorado.
