Clifton Car Break-Ins
Crime happens all across the Grand Valley, but police are looking for a suspect they believe is responsible for a string of break-ins this week in Clifton and they are hoping the public can identify the suspect in a surveillance photo.
Where Did Car Break-Ins Happen?
It was the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 12 when several cars were gone through in the 3200 block of Emerald Court. If you aren't familiar with the area, Emerald Court is located between D 3/4 and D 1/2 Roads, just east of 32 Road in Clifton.
Image of Suspect Captured By Surveillance Camera
According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, several cars were broken into, and one window was smashed causing about $1,000 in damage. A surveillance camera in the area captured at least one image of the suspect who was wearing a black hoodie, gray pants, and wearing a tan backpack.
If you have any information about the crime or the identity of the suspect, contact the Mesa County Sheriff's Office at 970-242-6707 or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Locked Cars Make It More Difficult For Thieves
This story is a reminder to all of us, regardless of where we live, to keep our vehicles locked at all times - day or night. While a criminal can get into any vehicle if he really wants to, quite often, these are crimes of opportunity. Thugs like this will intentionally look for cars that are unlocked - it's an easy steal. Stuff like this can happen in anybody's neighborhood.
If you don't have a security camera on your house, you might consider getting one. Nowadays you can actually get some decent equipment that is relatively inexpensive. Images you capture could help solve crimes on your street for you and your neighbors.
