Top Five Reasons You Should Travel Colorado by Bus

Have you toured Colorado from the comfort of a bus? There are some who believe you should. The Mesa County Libraries are hosting a presentation on the matter. Here are five reasons why you should consider riding the bus.

The last time I rode a Greyhound bus was somewhere around 1994. I rode with my grandpa from Grand Junction to Durango. Why the bus? We were heading down there to pick up a car, so we needed a one-way ride.

Looking back, the bus ride was great. I've traveled from GJ to Durango before, but I was always behind the wheel. The opportunity never arose to enjoy the scenery.

The Mesa County Libraries invite you to an event offering some helpful hints. “Travel Colorado by Bus,” is a presentation set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library at 443 N. 6th St. in Grand Junction.

According to a press release circulated by Mesa County Libraries:

Sarah Brooks, mobility manager for the Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office, will discuss how to use the state’s Bustang and Outrider services to get around the state without a car. The Colorado Department of Transportation launched Bustang and Outrider a few years ago, and those services can easily connect with other transit agencies across the state, making it easy to travel Colorado.

Brooks will present trip planning ideas, helpful hints for bus travel, and suggestions for places to stay, navigating without a car, and things to see and do.

I did a little digging, and here are five reasons why traveling by bus might be a good idea:

Bus travel is ideal for the adventurers at heart. There are so many small towns with a rich history and national parks that are just waiting to be explored and you can’t easily get to most of those by plane. (Thanks to elitedaily.com for this one)
No long security lines
One of the best things about traveling by bus is that it stops during the journey for a short rest, allowing you to stretch, get some fresh air, use an actual bathroom and recharge your batteries by getting some food and hot coffee. (Thanks again to elitedaily.com)
