We’re coming up on a long holiday weekend, and if you are planning on staying in town this Labor Day Weekend, here's a list of activities that are scheduled this weekend:

Thursday, August 29

  • The Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new location of Comfort Keepers, 514 28 ¼ Road in Grand Junction. The ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 242-3214.
  • Downtown Farmers Market will take place from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street in Grand Junction.
  • Senior Dance with live music from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Senior Recreation Center, 550 Ouray Avenue in Grand Junction. Admission is $2, and geared towards adults ages 50 and over. For more information, call 254-3866.

Friday, August 30

  • U.S. Bank presents an Inaugural Epic Rides Off-Road Series Event, which will include four off-road bike routes, live music, and a beer garden featuring local breweries and wineries. For more information, visit http://www.epicrides.com/.
  • The Grand Junction Fire Department and International Association of Firefighters Local 2808 are kicking off their 2013 Fill-The-Boot Campaign this Labor Day weekend to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Firefighting personnel will collect funds for this great cause at City Market stores (1st & Rood, 24 Road, Highway 50), Wal-mart on North Avenue, and Albertson’s on Broadway.
  • The Western Colorado Classic Auto Event begins with a welcome session and barbecue at 5:00 p.m. at the Allen Unique Auto Museum. All proceeds from the weekend-long event will benefit Hilltop Community Resources. For more information, call 244-0419 or 640-9309.
  • Glade Park Movie Under the Stars will feature the PG-rated film “The Karate Kid” starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Event takes place at the Glade Park Fire Department, just west of the Glade Park Store on DS Road. Concession stand opens 5:30 p.m., grill opens at 6:00 p.m., live entertainment is at 7:00 p.m. and movie begins at dusk.
  • Live in the Vines Concert Series will present “Jack & Jill” in concert at 7:00 p.m. at the Wine Country Inn, 777 Grande River Drive in Palisade. Cover charge is $5. Audience members are encouraged to kick back under the starry summer skies and enjoy the music.

Saturday, August 31

  • The Grand Junction Fire Department and International Association of Firefighters Local 2808 are kicking off their 2013 Fill-The-Boot Campaign this Labor Day weekend to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Firefighting personnel will collect funds for this great cause at City Market stores (1st & Rood, 24 Road, Highway 50), Wal-mart on North Avenue, and Albertson’s on Broadway.

  • The Rimrocker Historical Society in Nucla is encouraging anyone and everyone who has an association with Uravan or the uranium industry to attend the Uranium History Celebration & Reunion Picnic.   • G.J. Gardner Homes will host a grand opening event as its newest showroom in Grand Junction. The event is open to the public and will allow the Grand Junction community to learn more about the custom home building process. The event is scheduled from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the G.J.   • The Grand Junction Rockies begin their last homestand of the regular season with a series against Ogden Raptors. Game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Suplizio Field. A special fireworks display will follow the game.

Monday, September 2

  • The Redlands Lions Club will place flags out in the Redlands area. Areas served by the flag placement are Tiara Rado, Seasons, Monument Village, Panorama, Village Way, and other subdivisions. Some local Redlands area businesses will also display flags.
  • The Grand Junction Rockies play the Odgen Raptors during their last homestand of the regular season. Game will begin at 7:05 p.m. at Suplizio Field.
