I remember a few years ago there was a story about hundreds of live fish falling from the sky over a small town in Australia. While it perplexed the residents, the incident was later explained as most likely attributed to a tornado that had sucked up water and fish from rivers and dropped them great distances away. It made me wonder if there were other incidents of strange 'rainfall' throughout history. Turns out there are plenty.

According to the Daily Mail, there is a long history of strange objects raining down from the sky.

1st Century - Pliny the Elder wrote about storms of frogs and fish. I wonder if this was like the plague of frogs we read about in the Bible when  Moses and the Israelites were in bondage in Egypt.

1794 - French soldiers reported toads falling from the sky during heavy rain. We've all probably experienced a deluge of toads on the highway during a heavy rain storm. I hate running over them - squish, squish.

1857 - Sugar crystals as big as quarters fell in Lake County, California. No explanation for this one, but I wonder what it would have tasted like to catch the crystals on your tongue like a snowflake.

1876 - A woman in Kentucky reported meat flakes falling from the sky. The meat was tested and turned out to be venison. Well, that's one way to get deer meat on the table.

1969- Golf balls reportedly fell from the sky on Punta Gorda, Florida. You've heard of golf ball -sized hail. This was a case of hail-sized golf balls.

No doubt there is a reasonable and logical explanation for each incident. But, it's more fun to sit and wonder and be amazed about these strange occurrences.
