Colorado Trail Runner Attacked By, Kills Mountain Lion
Just a few days after five mountain lions were euthanized in Glenwood Springs, a runner on a trail in Horsetooth Canyon was attacked by a mountain lion.
The man was running on the West Ridge Trail in the park near Fort Collins when the attack occurred. The man stated he heard something behind him and when he turned to see what it was, the cat attacked him, biting his wrist and face before he was able to get free.
Further defending himself, the man then suffocated the mountain lion, killing it. The CPW verified his account of what happened when it issued the following:
The runner did everything he could to save his life. In the event of a lion attack you need to do anything in your power to fight back just as this gentleman did
Mountain lion attacks on people do not happen very often, with less than 20 deaths in the last 100 years. That being said, it is always best to be mindful of the area you hike or camp in and take all precautions needed to keep yourself, and the wildlife around you, safe from harm.
