95-Year-Old Resident Kills Assisted Living Employee Over Cash
This is one of those horrible sad stories that we will probably never know exactly what happened between these two men, but one is now dead, and the other is facing a first-degree murder charge. The incident took place here in Colorado according to The Gazette, where a 95-year-old resident at The Legacy shot and killed an employee over a fight about money.
The call for the gunshot wound came into 911 at approximately 7:15 a.m. when police arrived they found the suspect had used a small handgun and fired one single shot into the victim's head. He was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was placed on life support and pronounced dead just before 2:00 p.m.
While the gunshot victim hasn't been identified yet, it's believed that he was the facilities maintenance director and had worked there for eight years before losing his life.
The suspect 95-year-old, Okie Payne, had been living at the facility since October of 2019. He is now facing a first-degree murder charge and two counts of felony menacing.
The shooting took place in the front lobby of the senior care facility just as soon as the victim showed up to start his workday. The disagreement is believed to be over money.
After the shot was fired the suspect then threatened anyone else that tried to assist the victim. He then returned to his own room where police located him and took him into custody.
This is an absolutely tragic incident for both families involved. We wish them both the best through this challenging time.
