Workplace Sabotages Best Laid Diet Plans
Earlier this year I went on a diet and managed to lose 20 pounds. Yay for me. For the past few months I have successfully maintained my weight, despite my lack of participation and production at the gym. But it has not been easy, and here's why.
If I didn't have to come to work every day, weight maintenance would be much easier. But, I come to work and find co-workers and listeners offering me everything from cookies and cupcakes, to Peanut M & M's, cake, and who knows what else. Of course, I love all those things and find it difficult to say 'no'.
I go to put my lunch shake in the refrigerator, and what do I find? It's a box of Hostess Ho-Ho's staring me right in the face. Not only are the Ho-Ho's staring at me, they are screaming out my name, calling to me, inviting me to enjoy one.
Then you have Wednesday. Oh my word! Wednesday at the radio ranch has become donut day. Every Wednesday there is a huge box of donuts in the conference room. And while donuts have not been known to stare, they do tend to scream. Have one! It's only ONE. It won't hurt you! C'mon man!
Sometimes I resist - and sometime I don'tSometimes I am weak. I eat one. I enjoy it. Then I regret it.
It's a daily struggle and maybe you can relate to it. Maybe you have someone bringing in homemade cookies that look too delicious to pass up. Or there is a birthday celebration with cake and maybe ice cream. Or maybe Betty Lou, your cubicle mate, has a new pie recipe and insists you try her latest creation.
I have determined that if I am ever going to lose any more weight, or at least keep the poundage off that I have lost, I am going to have to stop coming to work. Of course, if I did that I probably would be at home baking a batch of sugar cookies.
