What is ‘Let Us Walk’ at Lincoln Park All About?
Have you spotted any of these signs around Grand Junction? What's going on?
Drive around Grand Junction, especially in the area of Lincoln Park, and you'll eventually see one of these signs. At first glance, I didn't realize it was an event for graduating seniors who, due to COVID-19, wouldn't get to enjoy the traditional graduation ceremony. Fortunately, it didn't take long for me to figure it out.
At the bottom of the sign you'll see mention of a Facebook page. Should you visit the page, you'll see the following description:
We are trying to show awareness of how much this means to us. NOTHING against d51. it would be awesome if all 5 d51 schools could get on this! Let's make one more big moment for the class of 2020! We will always be the ones to stand out:)
Do you know a graduating senior from D51? If you are interested in participating, the details are as follows:
- Where: Lincoln Park Barn
- When: Thursday, May 21
- Time: 5:30 p.m.
According to the Details section of the Let Us Walk Facebook page, social distancing guidelines will be observed. There will be pre-marked areas on the sidewalk indicating a safe distance between participants. All in attendance must bring a mask. The Facebook page includes this statement:
This is all FOR THE STUDENTS, BY THE STUDENTS, WITH RESPECT TO SOCIAL DISTANCING AND HEALTH CONCERNS. This is to prove that we are mature enough to follow guidelines.
I've always been a bit odd, so looking back on my high school career, all I wanted to do was get out of there. As I recall, the only reason I attended my graduation was to shut my parents up. Still, I recognize the significance of the event, and its importance to students and their families.
As you can see with the sign, your presence has been requested. Again, the organizers maintain they will observe current guidelines.
