Burn restrictions are in place to keep things like the High Chateau fire from happening. Not obeying those restrictions brings destruction like this fire.

Three Colorado Springs area residents have been arrested for arson over the High Chateau fire and are facing serious fines and jail time. The three, 23-year-old David Michael Renfro,19-year-old Kegan Patrick Owens, and a 17-year-old male juvenile were out camping and left their campfire unattended, causing a fire that has burned over 1,400 acres and has caused at least eight homes to be lost. The three face up to eight years in prison and fines up to $750,000 each.

Evacuations have been lifted, as the fire is now nearly 95% contained, and areas ahead of the fire were removed from pre-evacuation protocols.

Firefighters across the state continue to battle blazes but are finally making some headway. Nearly $40 million dollars has been spent so far on wildfires in Colorado, with over 148,329 acres burned so far.

Burn restrictions are in place across the state. If you are unsure if you should burn, check with the state restrictions list. One thing this state doesn't need are any more wildfires. The list of restrictions in Teller County is higher, as they are under a stage three restriction.
