Michael Francis Montgomery has been arrested in Oregon after six months on the run. Montgomery is wanted for killing his son in Rifle in March.

The murder of Christopher Gallegos was on March 29, 2017. Gallegos, who was only 28,  is believed to have been shot by his father-in-law, Michael Francis Montgomery. Gallegos died from a gunshot wound to head and this is the only homicide in Garfield County.

Fast forward to almost six months later, Gallegos's father, Montgomery, has been arrested. Montgomery was found leaving a church in the Ontario-area of Oregon. Ontario is near the Idaho border and is a remote area. After his arrest warrant went out, he fled Rifle and camped near the Snake River.

Montgomery did not resist arrest, according to Rifle Chief of Police Tommy Klein. Klein stated:

We are happy that he has been apprehended and will stand trial for the murder of Christopher Gallegos

I wonder how and why Montgomery shot his own son, father-in-law or not, that's family. Klein said that "it was not a random act." This is not Montgomery's first time breaking the law. His other charges, just for February 3 include:

  • Driving without a valid license
  • Three felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (including methamphetamine)
  • Two counts of drug paraphernalia
