Here is today’s question of the day – When it comes to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, would it bother you if the Pledge were spoken in a language other than English?

A Fort Collins high school cultural club is finding out first hand the answer to this question, after the club translated the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance into Arabic.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a club member on Monday read the Pledge in Arabic over the Rocky Mountain High School public address system. Within hours, the school received several angry calls from unhappy parents.

The club received a similar reaction in November, when members recited the Pledge in Spanish. The November recital sparked a debate on whether the Pledge in any language other than English was unpatriotic.

Despite complaints Monday from parents, club members had yet to hear negative reaction from school peers.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan states the student Cultural Arms Club was formed to knock down barriers and embrace other cultures.

The club has plans to translate the Pledge into American Sign Language, Korean and possibly Chinese.
