Rebirth Brass Band in Grand Junction: 5 Things to Know
The Rebirth Brass Band is coming to Grand Junction and here are five things you need to know.
The Four Peaks Music Festival and Grand Junction Off-Road happens this weekend and that means two-days of wall-to-wall-music. This is the 30th year of the festival, formerly known as Art & Jazz Festival
While three stages will be filled with mostly local musicians, Saturday night's headliner is the Rebirth Brass Band. Though the band may not be a household name in Grand Junction, these guys have been around for a long time. But, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce you to the band with five things to know about the Rebirth Brand Band.
1] The Rebirth Brass Band was founded in 1983 in New Orleans where they play a weekly gig at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street.
2] The sound of the Rebirth Brass Band is a combination of traditional New Orleans brass band music and funk, jazz, soul and hip-hop.
3] In 2012, the Rebirth Brass Band won a Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album.
4] In 2014, the band had a beer named after them called 'Rebirth Pale Ale.' The NOLA Brewing Company donated the proceeds from the sale of the beer to the Roots of Music, a non-profit organization started by one of the band members that sponsors an after-school program for at-risk youth.
5] The band and its members made several appearances on the HBO series Treme. The show was based loosely on the lives of founding member Kermit Ruffins and trombonist Stafford Agee.
The Rebirth Brass Band will be on the Main Stage at 4th and Main at 8:30 Saturday evening. There is no admission charge for any of the musical performances this weekend in downtown Grand Junction.
