Grand Junction Mutual Aid Gives Free Food, Haircuts, Kids’ Bikes
Tuesdays are special days in Grand Junction for families in need.
While most people in the Grand Valley go about their business and regular routine every Tuesday, a group of volunteers is making a difference in the lives of less fortunate individuals in Grand Junction.
Every Tuesday in Grand Junction is Mutual Aid Distribution Day and it's been going on for more than a year. From 10am until 1pm, donations from the public are received at the Unitarian Universalist parking lot at 536 Ouray Avenue and then distribution takes place at that location from 11am until 1pm.
They don't call themselves a charity but rather an "exchange of resources" to help people in need. While food distribution is part of what they do, it involves a lot more including toiletries, razors, sewing kits, gas and phone cards, and more.
FREE KIDS' BIKES THIS WEEK
Used Kids bikes are being given away this Tuesday, April 27 to families in need thanks to Sarahndipity Johnsen and Iriecycles. If you know of a family that can't afford new bikes for their kids, let them know about this bike giveaway. It's first-come, first-served and bikes will need to be picked up by 1:00.
PET VACCINATIONS
Free dog and cat vaccines will be given 12pm-1pm by Barkley's Hope, a local non-profit that provides 1st vaccinations for at-risk pets. They raise funds for local veterinarians who provide low-cost or free services to people in need.
FREE HAIRCUTS
Another resource being offered this week will be free haircuts. Special guest barber Charlie Quimby will provide the services.
This is another outstanding local effort that reaches out to individuals and families in need in the Grand Valley. Mutual Aid Distribution Day is a sharing of resources and goodwill carried out by a group of volunteers who want to make a difference in the community. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can reach out to the group on Facebook to find out what their specific needs might be.
