It is something just about all of us could sure use here at the end of a dismal 2020.

Downtown Grand Junction is giving away a marvelous staycation to one lucky downtown shopper. To enter, all you have to do is spend at least $50 at a downtown business by December 23. I'm pretty sure all of us feel like we really need a little rest, relaxation, and pampering.

The special promotion began during Downtown Grand Junction's 12 Days of Christmas, designed to attract local residents to the downtown area for the holidays. I thought the chance to win had passed, but a Facebook post from downtown earlier today indicates you have until next Wednesday.

The prize includes a one-night stay at the Springhill Suites - and that includes free parking. The winner also gets a spa treatment at Beauty Day Spa, wine tasting at Carlson Vineyards, dinner at il Bistro, breakfast at Main Street Bagels, and a $50 downtown gift card.

A couple of things to keep in mind. Your $50 purchase has to come from a single business to qualify as a valid entry. However, you can submit multiple qualified receipts online to gain more entries into the contest. The winner will be selected at random later this month.

It seems like I always talk about how cool downtown Grand Junction is, but, it really is true. We have so many great shops, stores, restaurants, and galleries that make downtown Grand Junction a great place to hang out - and, of course, a fantastic place to do holiday shopping. While I hope that everyone will spend at least some of their shopping dollars downtown, maybe this incentive will motivate some to spend a little more to get some super gifts and support the downtown merchants.

When you head downtown, just remember to wear your mask, and respect others by keeping your distance. It is absolutely possible to do some holiday activities like Christmas shopping while keeping yourself and others safe from COVID-19. It's a win-win-win. You're going to have some great gifts, you'll be supporting local business owners, and you'll have a chance to win that much-needed Grand Junction staycation.
