A familiar summer sight and sound of days gone by has found a home in Grand Junction. A rare Good Humor Ice Cream Truck was unveiled at the Hot Summer Nights Car Show on Saturday (Aug 3).The truck was recently acquired by Tammy Allen of Allen Unique Autos and is the newest addition to the automobile collection at the museum.

The truck is a 1969 Ford F250 the Good Humor Ice Cream company commissioned Hackney Brothers of North Carolina to build for the company that year. Hackney built approximately 80 of the Ice Cream trucks using this Ford chassis. This also marked the final year Good Humor used trucks.

In 1970, they switched to a step van for their ice cream deliveries. Good Humor ceased door-to-door deliveries in the mid-70s.

Tammy Allen says the rarity of the vehicle wasn't the only deciding factor in purchasing the truck for her collection. She indicated the truck reminded her of her childhood and she felt she could share the same sentimental attachment with others by having this icon a part of her museum collection.

To make the unveiling even more special, Allen filled the truck with ice cream treats and handed them out to anyone who wanted to relive a bit of their past in a nostalgic moment.
