Paonia’s Historic Bross Hotel Sold
The historic Bross Hotel after several false starts has finally been sold.
The hotel, built in 1905 and opened in 1906, has been purchased by Kevin and Karen Kropp, operators of First Fruits Organic Farms in the North Fork area. They plan to perform minor upgrades as well as changing the names of the rooms, to a more fruit type theme. As an example, the Honeymoon Suite will be named the Perfect Pear.
At the time it opened, the Bross was celebrated as the "Brown Palace of Delta" due to its hot and cold running water, coal furnace and indoor plumbing. Quite the deal for 1906.
The story is not without some drama, however. Just five days before closing, the Kropp's home and everything in it, was destroyed by fire. The community stepped up and through a Go Fund Me campaign, and donations of food and other necessities helped get them through, undeterred.
Each of the 10 rooms has a private bathroom and an innkeepers quarters and the plans are to continue to operate the 6,600 square foot facility as a bed and breakfast.
Make your plans and head to Paonia for a little slice of history, and a great night's sleep.
