Welcome to January! It sure is nice to have the frigid month of  December behind us. Apparently it was one of  the coldest Decembers ever for Grand Junction, and I couldn't be happier that it is gone.

Not that we are having a heat wave or anything, but we have started the new year on a warmer note. It was 22 degrees in Grand Junction when I left for work early Wednesday morning, and we eventually saw a high temperature of 35 degrees on  New Year's Day. Woot- woot!

Now, like I said, it's not like a heat wave or anything, but it is sure a lot better than having high temperatures in the teens and lower 20s. In fact, even though half of my small backyard is still engulfed by snow, I did pull out a golf club and took a few swings.

That may be rushing things a bit, but I do remember the Grand Junction winter a couple of years ago when I managed to play golf in every month. Although November was certainly nice enough to play, I haven't played now since early October. I am ready to rush things along and start having some normal winter temperatures.

My philosophy this year is when the Christmas tree comes down, the golf clubs come out. That tree is scheduled for disassembly  this weekend, which means the clubs are coming out. And while we may still be a ways away from being able to play (although I hear Devil's Thumb in Delta is clear of snow) I expect the weather to cooperate to the extent that I can get out in my back yard, start swinging, and getting into the groove.

One of my new year's "resolutions"  is to play more golf this year. That means making time and taking time to do it, and I plan to start in January. My hope, however, is that gloves and ear muffs won't be required.
