New Stop Light Going Up At Grand Junction’s Worst Intersection

It's been a long time in coming, but Grand Junction's worst intersection is finally getting a stoplight.

Two years ago, I went around town and located what I believe to be five of the worst intersections in Grand Junction without a stoplight. The list I came up with looked like this and I asked listeners to vote for the worst.

• Unaweep and 29 Road
• Bogart Lane and Rimrock Avenue
• Mesa Mall Entrance at 24 1/2 Road
• 7th and Colorado
• Any left turn on to Patterson or North

The intersection of Bogart Lane and Rimrock Avenue, which is the one by Chick-fil-A and Red Robin got  25% of the vote, but the overwhelming winner with 48% of the vote was Unaweep and 29 Road.

At long last, the left-turn nightmare onto 29 Road from Unaweep during rush hour is coming to an end.

The city is planning to put up a stoplight at the intersection and it should be in by April 1. That's great news for the 200 per-hour motorists trying to turn left during heavy traffic times, and the 13,000 motorists that use 29 Road on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, a stop light at Bogart Lane and Rimrock Avenue is not a practical solution, considering its close proximity to Highway 6 & 50. Something tells me it won't be long and we will see Grand Junction's newest roundabout there but that is a story for another day.
