How many times have you made the trip from the western slope to Denver, stopping only briefly for gas and a fast-food sandwich? That pretty much describes the typical trek for me across the I-70 corridor. We are always in a rush, but recently, we actually stopped to smell the roses and discovered a great little restaurant in Idaho Springs.

We were in the mood to try something new and wanted to find a local establishment and give it a shot. We took a few minutes to explore the narrow residential streets of this tiny mountain town. The dart landed on the Main Street Restaurant in downtown Idaho Springs.

Driving down the main drag of Idaho Springs, there's nothing about the Main Street Restaurant that stands out, upon walking into this small diner, you find it is simply, but comfortably decorated in a style you might expect in this historic town.

The menu offers breakfast options any time of the day, along with a variety of sandwiches, entree`s, and ethnic selections.

I opted for the country fried steak and gravy with eggs and hash browns, and their homemade sourdough bread. Oh my word! The bread was so good, I could have had just that for a meal!  But, if you are one who enjoys a good country fried steak, you have got to try this. Meanwhile, my wife chose the build your own burger option. The food was absolutely delicious, we were not disappointed - and the prices were very reasonable.

Would I recommend  this restaurant? Absolutely! We will be returning to the Main Street Restaurant in the future, and perhaps have been inspired to take a few more off-the-beaten-path excursions in hopes of more exceptional culinary discoveries.
