The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a homicide they believe took place in the area of Highway 340 and Crosby Avenue.

Grand Junction Police Respond to the Call

On Monday afternoon, a caller reported they had found what was believed to be human remains inside a plastic bag in a home. A number of search warrants were conducted and human remains were, in fact, found at one of the locations that had been searched.

Suspect Taken Into Custody

An adult male located at one of the searched addresses was taken into custody for questioning. Police were able to determine the suspect had committed the homicide on February 27 near Crosby Avenue and Highway 340, otherwise known as Broadway. This is in an area near the Riverside Parkway.

What Were the Charges?

Police arrested 19-year old Brian Cohee II, of Grand Junction who was taken to the Mesa County Detention Center. Cohee was charged with first-degree murder - a class I felony, as well as felony charges of tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence.

What About the Victim?

The identity of the victim has not been released. The Mesa County Coroner's Office will be releasing the identity as well as the cause and manner of death once they have made the proper notifications.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and do not believe there is any sort of ongoing public safety threat to the community. The arrest warrant has been sealed and no other details are available at this time.
