For some high school football teams in Colorado, playoffs for the state championship will begin Halloween weekend, and the remaining teams begin playoffs the following week.

That makes upcoming games crucial for those teams hoping to make it into the playoffs and a chance for a state title.

Fruita Monument was on the road Thursday as the Wildcats traveled to Mountain Vista. Fruita had a tough time in Thursday’s game, as Mountain Vista won 42-7. Mountain Vista scored all their points in the first three quarters, and the mercy ruling (with the rolling clock) had already taken effect Fruita scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter.

In Friday’s action, Grand Junction, Central and Palisade will travel to their respective games. Grand Junction will take on Arapahoe, Palisade is at Rifle, and Central at Summit. All three games begin at 7 p.m.

Central and Summit currently have identical records – 1 win and 5 losses. Both teams are going into tonight’s game hoping to earn a second win on the season.

And Palisade is hoping to give Rifle their first loss of the season. The Bears are currently 6-0 on the season.
