Have You Visited the Little Free Library at Las Colonias Park?
Have you utilized one of the "Little Free Libraries" around Grand Junction? Have you seen the new one at Las Colonias Park?
These are awesome. What exactly is a Little Free Library? According to the official website, LittleFreeLibrary.org:
It's a 'take a book, return a book' gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. You can, too."
The first one I remember in this town was located on Little Park Road. It simply appeared out of nowhere.
From time to time a new one will suddenly appear without notice. I visit Las Colonias Park all the time but did not see this until recently.
Looking inside I saw mostly paperback novels such as westerns and mysteries. Perhaps I'll donate a book or two. The last book I read was the new autobiography from Sally Field entitled "In Pieces." Quite frankly, the book was a real disappointment. I'll be more than happy to give it up.
The book before that was a sleazy paperback called "You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again." It was written by three ex-prostitutes and a failed actress. Included within its pages were some greasy stories about some of America's most famous celebrities. Hey, what do you want for 25 cents from the thrift store? Perhaps I'll avoid donating that one to the library.
Obviously, one must use some judgment and a touch of common sense when contributing to these public libraries. If I were to look around the house, there's little doubt I can find a few appropriate books to donate.
Would you like to have one of these in your neighborhood? I can't help but think it would be a fun project. How does one start a Little Free Library of their own?
Make plans to visit the Little Free Library at Las Colonias. As you can see from the photos, there's plenty of room for more books. When you drop one off, be sure to take one, too.
