Grand Junction’s First Parklet Is Set to Open
Grand Junction's very first parklet is set to open on Friday.
First things first. What in tarnation is a parklet?
A parklet is "an extension of the sidewalk over an on-street parking space that serves as a small public park". It's a place for people to gather outside, and hang out, and it's open to anyone. Essentially, a parklet is an open seating area.
Grand Junction's first parklet opens Friday (December 1) at 2pm in front of 132 South 5th Street near Tacoparty and Roasted.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has partnered with PNCI, Architect Robert Gregg, All Metals Welding and the City of Grand Junction to produce a first-of-its-kind amenity in Downtown Grand Junction.
Downtown Grand Junction already is cool place to hang out and it just got better -- especially if more parklets are on the way.I'm sure not everyone will think the parklets are such a good idea, but I would suggest that any problems that might occur can be dealt with appropriately and promptly eliminated.
