Growing older is for the birds.

As much as we don't like it, try to resist and reverse it, the aging process affects every living human being on the planet. While each of our individual journeys may be unique, the one common denominator is that all of us are dealing with the unavoidable process of getting older.

Because of genetics, lifestyle choices, and other factors each of us can be affected differently by the aging process. Getting older isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there are challenges that are inevitable.

I asked our Facebook followers what the hardest thing is about getting older. The number one response was "aches and pains." Isn't that the truth. Various parts of our bodies tend to randomly start hurting with no apparent or obvious reason. Injuries seem to come more easily, while recovery and healing become more difficult.

A lot of people who responded to my question were thinking about the physical challenges of getting older.

Not all of the issues that come with age are related to our physical bodies. Sometimes it has to do with jobs, losing loved ones, and dealing with change.

And here's one I can't really relate to, but I'm sure there are others in the same boat as Amy.

I was very surprised that not many people expressed concerns about their changing appearance as they get older. Madelyn alluded to it in her response.

I guess we can all take consolation in the fact that we are all in the same boat. It's just that some people's boat is sinking faster than others. My goal is to keep the boat afloat for as long as possible - keep the leaks to a minimum, and do my best to avoid icebergs.
