Grand Junction Shooting Leaves One Dead
One person is dead following a shooting on Grand Avenue Monday afternoon in Grand Junction.
According to Grand Junction Police, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Grand Avenue to remove a person outside a home. When officers contacted the subject inside a vehicle, shots were fired and the suspect was shot and died at the scene.
Police say after the shots were fired, officers removed the man from the vehicle and moved him to a safe location behind a police vehicle to bring in paramedics to assess his condition. A gun was found inside the vehicle and is being analyzed. Officials did confirm that two officers were involved in the incident, and neither was injured.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed under administrative leave --standard policy--while the investigation into the shooting is conducted. Officials say an autopsy is being conducted and they don't expect to have additional information until Tuesday afternoon.
