Grand Junction Firefighters are getting ready for their 2017 Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy and they're offering to fill your stomach when you help fill the boots with donations this Friday (May 26).

Grand Junction Professional Firefighters Local 2808 are hosting a BBQ to mark the start of this year's fundraising.

Firefighters will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday at the 12th and Patterson City Market store.

The event gives people a chance to grab a quick lunch, visit with local firefighters, learn more about MDA and help fill the boot with donations for this organization.

Funds raised from the Grand Junction campaign will be used to provide information and local resources including support groups for adults and children with the disease along with their families.

Donations also help fund care centers and research for Muscular Dystrophy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig Disease) and other life-threatening diseases.

A portion of the Fill the Boot drive will also pay for more than 11 Grand Junction area children to attend a Colorado MDA Summer camp.
