The Fourth of July holiday means different things to different people. Aside from the celebration of America's independence, it's generally a day filled with activity from camping and fishing and boating, to picnicking, grilling, and fun family get togethers. It's also means tradition, and in Grand Junction there are some great traditions.

The Fourth of July Celebration begins with the annual Independence Day Parade in downtown Grand Junction, beginning at 10am. The parade typically begins at 5:00, but has been moved up because of the Thursday Farmers Market downtown. The theme for this year's parade is "Land of the Free."

At 11:00, the Lincoln Park Pool opens up, with KOOL 107.9 broadcasting LIVE on location In celebration of America's birthday price, the special admission price from 11 until 1 is just $2.37. For that price you can come and go, and swim and slide all day long.

The Grand Junction Fireworks display is typically the best in Western Colorado, with musical accompaniment. The fireworks will start at 9:45 at Suplizio Field, but there is some great entertainment preceding the big show. Boogie Machine, a well-known band out of Denver, will provide a concert of fun 70s and 80s disco, funk, and rock and roll. Check out the video. These guys and gals are so cool!

There will be prize giveaways during the evening, and some attendees will be selected at random for special VIP seating on the field. KOOL 107.9's Ed Chandler and I will be your on-the-field-emcees for this fun event.

Tickets for the event are just $5 and available at City Market stores and at the Parks and Rec office at Lincoln Park. The ticket price at the gate is the same.

So it's a big day, to be sure.Hopefully, you can squeeze some of this fun into your day and make it a memorable Fourth of July holiday.
