Everybody knows it's almost time for the downtown Grand Junction tree lighting, but few people know when it is actually happening this year.

For the last few years, the downtown tree lighting has taken place on the Friday before Thanksgiving. For many years prior to that it always happened on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. There is a change in store for this year.

The annual tree lighting in downtown Grand Junction will take place on Saturday, November 23 - the weekend before Christmas.

Rykel Menor, the events coordinator for downtown Grand Junction told me they changed the day of the tree lighting to make it easier for families to attend this great holiday event. Friday at 5:00 can be difficult for a lot of folks because of work schedules. The Saturday evening tree lighting should make it easier for families to get to downtown to enjoy some fun entertainment, see the lighting of the tree - and all of the lights in downtown Grand Junction - and the kids can enjoy visits with Santa.

For the second year in a row, the tree lighting entertainment will be provided by CMU's Mesa Out Loud - an outstanding vocal group that will perform some great Christmas music. They are scheduled to perform at the Wells Fargo courtyard at 4th and Main starting at 4:45.

Depending on weather and conditions, we anticipate Santa's arrival between 5:15 and 5:30 at which time he will light the community tree as well as all of the lights in downtown Grand Junction, and then visit with all of the good little boys and girls.

The downtown tree lighting is a fun holiday event and a great Grand Junction tradition. I hope to see you there!
