Latest Art on the Corner Sculpture in Downtown Grand Junction

Has downtown Grand Junction added an Art on the Corner sculpture without telling us?

It sure looks like we have a new sculpture on Grand Junction's Main Street. However, things aren't always what they seem.

Real-Life Art on Main Street

In this case, we have real-life art in the form of Tierra Mason, a senior at Palisade High School. People attending Thursday's Market On Main were doing a double-take as they walked past Tierra who was posing as a live statue.

Creativity, Activity, and Service

Tierra is in the International Baccalaureate Program and as part of that program, she is doing a CAS Project. CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. To demonstrate these concepts, students are required to do a project that challenges students to "show initiative, demonstrate perseverance, and develop skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and decision making."  CAS is one of the three essential elements that every student must complete as part of the Diploma Programme.

Donations For A Good Cause

You'll notice the small bucket in front of Tierra. No, she is not taking donations to fund her college education, but she is receiving donations for a local cause. All of the money donated goes to The House, which is the local facility providing housing for homeless youth.

A Chance to See Tierra In the Future

A lot of folks were stopping by during Thursday's Market on Main to take photos of Tierra --and to put some cash in her golden bucket. If you missed it, no worries. Tierra plans to be at future markets on Main Street so if you are attending the market be sure and look for Tierra and support her effort.
