Downtown Grand Junction Car Show Moves Back to September
There has been a change in the downtown Grand Junction car show change.
For years, the downtown car show has been held in late September. It's one of the biggest and best car shows of the year in western Colorado and always marks the arrival of fall. However, this year was going to be different.
After much thought and consideration, the decision was made to move the car show away from the busy month of September which always includes Colorado Mountain Winefest and Fruita Fall Festival, among other things. The car show was moved to the last Saturday in June - before the start of the Market on Main.
Ever since that decision was made, a lot has changed in the world and in Grand Junction. Summertime events remain a big question mark at the present time, and the coronavirus pandemic has already caused the cancellation of the Grand Junction Off-Road and Downtown Music Festival. Now, we have another change.
The good news is, the downtown car show has not been canceled, it has been postponed. The new date for the Mobility Driven Downtown Car Show is September 12. That puts the car show one week before Winefest and two weeks before Fruita Fall Festival. It will fall on the same weekend as Pork n Hops, but should not present a major conflict since the BBQ festival is mainly a late afternoon/evening event.
Registration for the car show opens June 29, and we'll look forward to seeing some great classic cars and handing out all of the awards including the KOOLest Car in the show.
While nobody can predict exactly what Grand Junction looks like four months from now, there is a sense of optimism that many of our traditional events will go on as scheduled. It's possible they will be executed differently than in the past, but, whatever we can get will be a lot better than nothing at all.
