Click It or Ticket: Facts That Will Make You Wear Your Seat Belt
The Click It Or Ticket enforcement period starts this week. These five facts will make you wear your seat belt.
The Click It or Ticket rural enforcement period begins this week according to Colorado Department of Transportation's Facebook. Weld County lost 23 people last year due to being unbuckled. These people were anywhere from 10 years old to 72 years old.
Danger
Wearing a seat belt reduces injuries and death by about 50%! With just one click, that's easy and gets rid of that annoying sound in your car.
Deaths
22,441 people died in car crashes in 2015. Over half of these people were NOT buckled up during the crash. For people between 1-54 years old, car crashes are one of the leading cause of death
Unbuckled
Young adults, men, and people who live in rural areas are more likely to go unbuckled. Just having an unbuckled passenger in your vehicle increases your risk of injury or death by 40%.
Costs
Save yourself the $65 that a seat belt ticket will cost you. "Non-fatal crash injuries to drivers and passengers resulted in more than $48 billion in lifetime medical and work loss costs in 2010."
Effective
Seat belts saved nearly 14,000 lives in 2015 alone. Air bags are not the same as seat belts, they're to be used at both times to maximize your safety. Everyone, buckle up, all the time, every time.
