Who is the Grand Junction Guitarist in the Insurance Commercials?
By now you've seen it a hundred times, the health insurance company TV commercial featuring a classical guitarist. Looks familiar, doesn't he? Who is that?
Every time I turn on the TV or watch a YouTube video, I see the same commercial. It's for Rocky Mountain Health Plans, and it features a male classical guitarist. The commercial spot shows him practicing, performing, and walking out on stage in a mariachi suit.
His face probably rings a bell. If you've attended a concert with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, or any other classical concert, you've probably heard him perform. For that matter, if you've attended any religious function anywhere in Grand Valley, you've probably caught one of his performances.
That's Javier De Los Santos. He recently performed a number of concerts with the GJSO at the Avalon Theatre. He also serves as Music Director at St. Joseph's in Grand Junction. In his spare time, which I can't believe he has any of, he teaches at Colorado Mesa University.
So, how did he land this cool TV commercial gig? According to Javier:
I got a call from the Roos Brothers, a filming company from Denver, and was asked about being part of this documentary that Rocky Mountain Health Plans has been doing for the past few years and agreed. We did a couple days of shooting the film and pictures. It was an awesome experience. - Javier De Los Santos
When can you catch a live concert with Javier? You can hear him at any mass at St. Joseph's. His next public concert is coming up on December 14 at the Love Recital Hall at the Moss Performing Arts Center at CMU. Javier will perform with the Western Colorado Chorale for the Holiday Concert featuring seasonal music from America. The concert features Dr. Darin Kamstra and Elise Anderson. There will be two shows:
- December 14 at 7:30 p.m.
- December 15 at 3:00 p.m.
Congratulations, Javier, for landing the very-cool commercial. It makes us want to go out and get health insurance. Sorry, but I already have insurance through my employer. I hope this spot has a long run.
