It was August 16, 1977. One of those few days in a lifetime that will never be forgotten. Elvis Aaron Presley died at the age of 42, shocking fans across the nation and around the world. Most people, I think, remember that day in some fashion, and how they heard the tragic news of the death of the king of rock and roll.I was 13 years old, and was just beginning to discover who Elvis was and his significance in American music history. The news came over the radio. I was in disbelief. There must be a mistake. Elvis can't be dead. I kept waiting to hear a retraction. Elvis really wasn't dead, he was just in the hospital and he wold be okay. The retraction never came. I barely knew who Elvis was, but I was extremely sad. I sensed this was not just another day.

Here's a clip from the NBC Nightly News with David Brinkley,as he reports the death of the king. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news.
