I have a certain appreciation for cashiers---whether it be at the grocery store, department store, or fast food restaurant. I think my feelings about them stem in part from my own experience in the retail world. For one thing, it’s a thankless job. For another, it would seem by the very nature of the position that there must be a sign attached to your forehead that says “COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT”. Besides that the hours can be long and tedious. So whenever I run into a cashier who seems to go out of their way to make ME feel good about my purchase, I stand up and take notice.
The fact is there is a particular art to being a good cashier…from being as quick and efficient as possible to being genuinely friendly  and courteous to the customer, even  if the customer is not displaying any kindness. There is more to taking money than just taking money.
In Grand Junction,  my experience is that  some of the friendliest cashiers are at Chick Fil A. Of course, they train their people to be that way. They don’t accept anything less. Other businesses would do good to follow that model. It also helps if you hire people who are naturally friendly and personable. Another place I have encountered extremely nice cashiers is at Albertson’s. Of course, there are other places with nice cashiers, but I need some help in identifying them all. I’m sure there are others along with me who would like to do business with them.
