What You Need to Know About the Grand Valley Bike Swap
If you are a biker, you need to know about the Grand Valley Bike Swap.
In case you hadn't noticed, biking is a big thing in the Grand Valley. No, not everyone has a bike - but there are lots of people that do. Many of those will be at the Grand Valley Bike Swap on April 27 at Civic Center Park in Fruita.
Ski swaps are extremely popular at the beginning of the ski season, and the bike swap is basically the same sort of deal in early spring. A bunch of people gets together to sell bikes and gear they no longer want and pass it on to someone else who is looking for a bargain.
For those wanting to sell stuff, there is a suggested $5 donation for every 10x10 space you need. The money raised from the event goes to COPMOBA, a non-profit organization of volunteer bikers who advocate for building and maintaining bike trails in western Colorado.
The gates for the bike swap will open at 10:00 am and the event goes until 8:00 pm. There is a suggested minimum donation of $1 to shop. Throughout the day there is live music, food trucks, and beer, plus the chance to get a great deal on a bike and related gear and equipment.
FYI, you can bring your dog if you want, as long as you keep it on a leash and you clean up after your pet.
While we are on the subject of bikes, as I mentioned earlier, biking is a thing in the Grand Valley. While plenty of people confine their biking to trails, there are lots of bikes on our city streets, so please watch out for them and help keep them safe on the road.
