Grand Valley Bike month in Grand Junction is going to be huge this year.

It's no secret that biking is one of the favorite pastimes in the Grand Valley, but it's hard to believe we have been celebrating bike month now for 10 years. That being the case, there is going to be an entire month dedicated to bike enthusiasts filled with events and activities. If you are a biker, you don't want to miss out. And if you aren't a biker yet, this might convince you to join the club. Be sure and follow Mobile Mesa County for more information about Grand Valley Bike Month.

Bike to Work Day

Wednesday, May 5 is Grand Valley Bike to Work Day. Depending on where you live, not everyone can participate in this one, but those that do will have the chance to win a local gift card. To enter, just submit a photo entry by 6pm on Wednesday on social media and use #GVBikeMonth. You can also email your photo entry to bikemonth@mesacounty.us.

Ride Challenge

Challenge #1 is to try and get as many miles as you can during the month in any of three categories....Transportation, Fun & Fitness, or Bike with Kids. There will be prizes for the top three riders in each category.

Challenge #2 is about biking on consecutive days and building a biking habit. Bikers who ride a minimum of 5 days in a row will be entered into a random drawing.

Ride your bike and take photos for a chance to win prizes. Try out some new routes and trails. There is also a Skills Selfie Challenge where you submit photos as you complete three specific skills including proper helmet fitting, hand signals, bike skills park, bike chain cleaning, what's in your pack, front-wheel lift, fixing a flat tire, trackstand, and riding downhill/drops. Email photos to bikemonth@mesacounty.us or tag Mobile Mesa County on social media with #GVBikemonth.

Group Rides

If you need someone to ride, why not join a group. Three group rides are scheduled during the month on May 5 and May, and a Costume Ride on May 15.

Fruita Scavenger Hunt

A self-guided scavenger hunt is happening May 14-15 in downtown Fruita. Follow the directions on the form from Fruita Parks and Recreation. Snap a photo of each clue and submit entries.

Grand Valley Bike Month is definitely going to be a fun month for the biker community in the Grand Valley. I would issue a word of caution to be extra alert for bikers out on the road. Let's work hard to keep everybody safe.
