As you can clearly seen in the photo, Marv's Stop and Eat, a Grand Junction fixture back in the 1980's, has seen better days. It's only a hunch, but it looks as though the building is going through a little more than just a minor remodel.

Marv's Stop and Eat was a dining establishment located on Orchard Mesa on Highway 50. Back when Orchard Mesa was a rapidly growing area of Grand Junction, not to say it still isn't, many of us would take a break from our construction work and head to Marv's.

The restaurant sported a total of four tables and a small counter. The cash register was just that... a cash register. No counter, no booth, no nothing. Quaint as it was, the reality is the food was really pretty good. Most restaurants that small usually offer a limited menu. Not Marv's. Their menu was as complete as restaurants ten times the size.

Following a successful run as Marv's, the building went on to become everything from a bakery to an Asian food establishment. As of last week, Marv's is functioning as a pile of rubble.

So long Marv's Stop and Eat. Your small building and friendly staff served as symbol of simpler times in a non-chain-restaurant world. No gimmicks, kids meals, or gift cards. Put simply, a great place to go when you needed to take a break from roofing in 100 degree heat.
