Morning rain couldn't stop a number of people from walking, (or riding), in the annual Grand Junction Walk To End Alzheimer's on Saturday (Sept 14) at Long's Memorial Park.

Mother nature provided a brief bit of a break from the rain to give walkers a chance to take a couple of laps around the park in support of both the fight against Alzheimer's and to support the local office that provides assistance, education and resources to those afflicted by Alzheimer's, their families and caregivers.

One of the most colorful parts of the walk was the Promise garden with multi-colored pinwheel flowers 'planted' by participants near the starting point of the walk.

Each color represents the reason for someone taking part in this year's walk. The purple flowers were planted by a walker who had lost someone to Alzheimer's. The blue flowers represent those walkers afflicted with the disease. Yellow flowers were placed by walkers who are supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer's and orange flowers were placed by those who support "the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer's."
