Top 10 Things People in Grand Junction Waste Money On
Most of us would say we waste money on something, and here are the top 10 things people in Grand Junction waste money on.
We asked the question on Facebook, what is the #1 thing you waste money on? Some of the responses were not surprising, while others gave us quite a shock, like a woman who said her husband.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and one man's junk is another man's treasure. What is wasteful to one person may not be wasteful to another, so don't think that if you spend money on some of these things that we are calling you wasteful.
There is no judgment here. This is a personal thing. Maybe you waste money on something and you wish you didn't. Maybe you are throwing money into some deep, dark abyss, and you know you're wasting money but you don't care.
Here are the top 10 things people in Grand Junction are wasting money on based upon our listener responses.
COLD BEER
I'm not a beer drinker, but it's no secret that the Grand Valley loves beer drinking events. Besides special events, there are plenty of guys (and gals) who like to keep a cold one in the fridge to be ready at a moment's notice.
HORSES
If you are spending money on horses, it's most likely a hobby or recreational activity for you. Like any recreational activity, the dollars can add up pretty quickly when you start buying necessary equipment and participate in pay-to-play events, not to mention the cost of feeding your animal.
JUNK FOOD
Of course, the junk food aisle is one of the most popular places at the grocery store. Generally, I don't even try to push a cart down the aisle. I park my cart at the end of the aisle and then walk to the desired snacks and pack out a load back to my cart. I will make two trips if necessary.
BOTTLED WATER
Bottled water is a popular commodity, especially for people who don't subscribe to one of the local water supply services. Depending on where you live exactly, a different source of water may be absolutely necessary-just be sure to recycle the plastic bottles.
LIBRARY FINE
Library fines are like a lot of the expenses we incur that could be avoided if we were a little more attentive. It's truly a waste of money because it is completely avoidable. But, don't let the fear of a fine keep you from diving into a good read.
SMOKES
Not only am I not a beer drinker, I am not a smoker. For one thing, I don't want my hair, clothes, skin, and house to smell like an ashtray. But, even if that wasn't the case, the expense of a smoking habit would be enough to make me want to quit.
TELEVISION
Plenty of us waste a lot of time watching television and don't think about the money we are spending on cable or satellite TV services. I suppose you could look at it as pretty cheap entertainment. Or you could think about what better and more productive things you could do with that money each month.
HUSBAND
This is certainly one of the more interesting responses, and I'm sure there are plenty of wives who would join in a chorus of agreement. But, c'mon ladies, is he really a waste of money?
INTERESTS
This one leaves it pretty wide open. In the Grand Valley we have plenty of "interests" to waste our money on whether it be bike riding, skiing, four-wheeling, golfing, shooting and hunting, photography, bowling, or dancing among other things.
WINE
Well, no one should be surprised that wine would make the list. While I'm sure most wine drinkers would not agree that it's a waste of money, still, you can't deny the fact that a lot of people spend a ton of money on wine in western Colorado.
