Buying Mother's Day gifts can be both easy and rewarding thanks to a group of students at R-5 High School.

In addition to their normal academic studies, the students have been busy planting and tending to a variety of flowers and bedding plants in the school's garden and greenhouse.

The garden and greenhouse is a student project that started with a piece of bare ground on the R-5 campus.

The students built the planters, compost bins, and greenhouse. They also prepared the soil for planting and sowed the seeds that have grown into beautiful flowers, herbs, and bedding plants they're ready to sell.

The R-5 Plant Sale is Monday, May 8, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The R-5 Bike Club is joining the event selling bicycles refurbished by the club. Prices range from $50 to $100 per bike.

Money collected from the plant and bike sales will be used to purchase seeds and supplies for the garden and bicycles and parts.

The students involved are in the Project Based Learning class, which in addition to classroom work, gives the students a way to apply what they're learning to real-life projects and goals.
