I don't know exactly who to thank, so for right now I want to thank Grand Junction for this great improvement to North Avenue.

The focus of my gratitude is the west end of North Avenue where it merges on to Highway 6 & 50. This was a long time coming and it makes me wonder why it didn't happen sooner.

I'm talking about the section of the road between 1st and Highway 6 & 50. Let me refresh your memory.

It wasn't that long ago that once you got past 1st Street, you had a short amount of time to either merge into a single lane, or to make a left or right turn. This was always problematic, especially during high traffic times, as vehicles in the left lane tried to get over into the right lane before running out of room.

Now, no merging is required. It's double lanes from First Street all the way to 6 & 50, and now, merging on to Highway 6 & 50 is also much easier and safer. Plus, you have left and right turn lanes, so everybody can be happy at the same time.

It has been this way for a while now, but it struck me recently how truly wonderful this change has been and I just wanted to say thanks. I don't know if I should be thanking the city, the county, the state, or just the taxpayers, but regardless, let it be known that I, along with everyone else who travels that road, am extremely grateful for the change.
