According to USA Today, former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has cancelled a speaking engagement at a controversial church in Dallas, Texas. Tebow, who is still on the New York Jets' roster was scheduled to deliver two sermons in April  at the First Baptist Church of Dallas, which boasts an attendance of around 11,000.

While Tebow didn't mention specifically why he was canceling, the church's pastor Dr. Robert Jeffries has provoked much controversy with his outspoken views on issues like homosexuality and other religions. Tebow reportedly told the pastor that for personal and professional reasons he needed to avoid controversy at this time, but that he would like to speak at the church in the future.

Tim Tebow is no stranger to criticism and controversy, which has followed him through his journey in the NFL. The scheduled visit had received criticism from some liberal media outlets, and now some are saying his "polite" cancellation didn't go far enough.

Meanwhile, Tebow's football future seems in doubt. Though still with the New York Jets, it's expected that he will either be traded or released soon.
