Anyone who has been in the area of the Las Colonias Business Park or even the dog park has noticed that new RockyMounts sign that was just put up on their new building that was set up to be a distribution center and warehouse. But we are now finding out from GJ Sentinel that their owner has changed his mind about at least part of their business being here on the Western Slope. The company will still have its headquarters here in Grand Junction but its distribution center will now be out of Salt Lake City.

What Part of RockyMounts Will Remain in Grand Junction?

The company will still have its headquarters here in Grand Junction but its distribution facility will be based out of Salt Lake City.

Why is RockyMounts Distribution Center in Salt Lake City if their Headquarters are in Grand Junction?

The reason for the switch is because drivers don't want to bring the containers down here. All of their products are made overseas, then shipped to SLC, then loaded on trucks and brought down here. But with the drive here, unloading, and limitations on hours that truckers can be on the road it means many drivers have to stop on the side of the road to sleep after putting in 12 hours. Drivers cannot go over 12 hours on the road at any certain time.

When RockyMounts made the move from Boulder to Grand Junction their owners were under the assumption they could get containers to Grand Junction via trains, that is not the case.

The big beautiful building that was just built is now looking at being divided and rented out although the RockyMounts owner says he isn't wanting to become a landlord so only time will tell what happens with the new building.
