Powderhorn Puts The Wraps On A Successful Season

Near record-setting snowfall set up Powderhorn for a big season!

Talk about finishing on a high note! Powderhorn wrapped up the ski season with a huge crowd on Sunday. It’s quite the opposite compared to last year when the resort was debating if they could even keep the lifts running through the end of March. Not this year. An 80-inch base made for excellent spring conditions for the season finale as Powderhorn enjoyed what resort manager Ryan Schramm called a "record-breaking year for visitation."

2018/19 was indeed one of Powderhorn's best seasons ever. On January 19th, they set a new all-time attendance record. It's been a much-needed turnaround from the last two drought-stricken seasons. The resort benefited from nearly 300 inches of snowfall. The resort closed out the season with 150% of the average snowpack on the Grand Mesa.

The big year will allow for the resort to reinvest in the facility and make needed capital improvements. “It’s been really good for us financially, it’s been an economic driver in the region, and because of visitation we’ve been fully staffed all year long which is great for our staff and employees...,” continued Schramm. Improvement plans in the works include a new snowmaking system and adding more summer bike trails.

Speaking of, the summer mountain bike season gets started in a couple of months. Look for the trails to reopen as early as Saturday, June 8th.
